Senior Software Engineer · Zürich

Hi, I'm Gio.

I build backend systems, and let the data decide what to improve next. 8 years in, I still love turning a noisy graph into a flat one.

The fundamentals transfer. Syntax is a detail.

Backend by focus. Language‑agnostic by choice.

I studied Computer Science in Maastricht and have been building software professionally since 2018. Most of that time has gone into the backend: the services, data and infrastructure that have to stay fast and correct when nobody is watching.

I've shipped production code in a lot of languages, and I don't define myself by any of them. Once you've properly learned one, you've learned them all. The hard parts are modelling data, handling concurrency, planning for failure and choosing the right trade-offs, and those come with you wherever you go. I pick whatever fits the problem and the team.

Where I spend my time

  • System design
  • APIs & services
  • Databases & query tuning
  • Performance & profiling
  • Observability
  • Reliability

Measure first. Then improve.

Opinions are cheap and production data isn't. Every change I make goes through the same loop.

  1. 01

    Measure

Instrument first. Metrics, traces and profiles give us a baseline before anyone forms an opinion.

  2. 02

    Find

Follow the numbers to the real bottleneck, which is rarely the one that just feels slow.

  3. 03

    Change

One variable at a time, small and reversible, so cause and effect stay obvious.

  4. 04

    Verify

Measure again. Keep what moved the needle and roll back what didn't.

↺ Repeat until the graph goes flat.

Things I've built.

I've built a lot over the years, mostly behind company walls or just for myself. I've only recently started publishing, so the list is short for now and growing.

Got a system that's slow, flaky, or a mystery?

Or something new that needs building? I'm always up for a conversation about backend architecture, performance, or the numbers behind a hard problem.
